I love Thursdays! Because Thursday means that Friday is one day away, and that’s the day we head up to the farm!
It’s an especially exciting time, because everything is in full growth and the changes that I see taking place are dramatic! Let’s just take the garden as an example.
Last Sunday, the green beans were just starting to come in. This week, I expect to have a nice delicious harvest of string beans. Last week, I saw the first blush of a tomato. I can’t wait to see if there are any tomatoes ready for harvest.
Seriously, is there anything better than a home grown tomato?
There should be a cucumber or two to harvest, and I think the lettuce is now finally getting big enough to harvest. So it’s a very bountiful and rewarding time after all my hard work. Also, I’ll be glad to be eating fresher ingredients. The flavor differences between my garden and my local produce stand are incredible. And I live most of the time in NYC, which has a bounty of fresh veggies available. I just can’t compare the difference between “fresh off the plant” and fresh out of the supermarket.
So tomorrow I’ll be up at the farm. I can’t wait! I’ll make sure to post photos of our harvest!
